Install Shower Valve

If you want to install a new shower faucet turn off your main water supply then remove the old faucet and its components.

Install shower valve. As you replace your shower valve work carefully to make sure you don t forget any important details. Regardless of skill level there are different ways to do everything shower plumbing is no different. Install the valve cartridge.

When the metal is completely cool reinstall the shower cartridge the same way as it was removed. If your shower valve is damaged beyond repair you may need to replace it to prevent leaks. Then turn the water back on and check for leaks.

When you re ready to install the new faucet wrap the threads of your new valve in 3 layers of plumber s tape then install the nylon sleeve over the valve stem. If you don t have an access panel you might be able to replace the faucet by cutting a hole in the shower surround problem 3 below but the best solution is to install a paintable plastic panel behind the faucet. To replace the faucet you have to work inside the wall some homes have a removable panel in the next room behind the faucet.

Make sure that the shower valve is in the off position. Allow time for the pipes and the shower valve to cool down after soldering before reinstalling the shower cartridge. Next install the chrome flange and the retaining screw.
