Tiling Shower Walls
Including application of adhesive grout edging strip and cutting.
Tiling shower walls. Use a wet saw with a diamond blade to cut all the tiles. For our shower we chose a running bond pattern. We prefer tiling the shower floor first then the shower walls.
How to tile and grout a bathroom wall. Add up the wall areas and add 10 so you have extra tile for mistakes or future repairs. Prep the shower area for tile layout to start tiling prepare by running a bead of silicone caulk around the perimeter of the area you are tiling to seal it image 1.
Periodically check the tile line with a level to be sure they are straight. Use the back of a plastic spoon to smooth the caulk. Avoid having the bottom of the tile flush with the bottom edge of the cement board.
For exposed edges set edge trim or bullnose tile pieces in place. That way the gap along the shower floor perimeter which should be at least 1 8 is covered by the wall tile. Cut as needed with tile snips or a wet saw to allow tile pieces a better fit around shower faucets and shower heads.
Measure each wall area calculating the width times height. You ll need a design plan before you start attaching the tile. Once only the bottom row is remaining remove the support board.
